A Scare that Continues

Last Friday morning I woke up and discovered I was bleeding. After a moment of disbelief, my mind started reeling with all of the horrible things this could be from. I called my doctor's after-hours line and within 20 minutes, the doctor-on-call called me back. He told me if I wasn't bleeding after laying down for 10 minutes, to call once the office opened for an appointment later that day... which was the case. So, I spent the morning worried about the baby, but was reassured when the nurse found the baby's heartbeat. Robert convinced them to do an ultrasound (he can be very convincing), which was good b/c they found something in my uterus that was odd. This was my 3rd ultrasound, but the first where we could see a little baby. Robert thinks the baby will have an attitude b/c s/he flipped over while we were watching, as if to say "don't look at me!".

Then, yesterday I was concerned again when I saw more bleeding. We went back to the doctor today and thankfully again were reassured by hearing the heart beat. They did another ultrasound. At this point, they believe the odd thing in my uterus was a "placental lake", which means a pool of blood, which is what caused the bleeding. They said it looks much better today than 5 days ago. Thank God!

We go back to the doctor on Monday and actually see the doctor. The past few visits have been with the nurses / PAs (all of whom I really like!). So, we'll see what he has to say but I'm believing everything is fine.

I know how you feel...at 12 weeks with Jacob, I passed a huge clot & ended up in the ER...bleeding a lot. I was seen by a physician within 20 minutes of arriving, and then had an US, and then waited for a few hours for the report...but, at least we knew that the little baby was fine (the US tech actually turned the sound on so we could hear the heartbeat, which was so totally against the rules)!

I ended up with a subchorionic hemorrhage, and the ER doc gave me a 20% chance of carrying him to term. Follow-up with my physician the next day gave me a 95% chance in carrying him to term...I guess that's the "art" part of medicine; everyone has their own opinion!

I didn't carry to term, but close enough - little guy had to come 7 weeks early, but that was fine! My water broke early...probably due to the weakness from the hemorrhage.

This one...no problems, no bleeding, perfectly normal pregnancy...37 weeks tomorrow! :) I'll probably have this one two weeks late...just my luck!

With all that said, take it easy & rest in the knowledge of knowing that the Lord knows all & is in control of the whole situation. My physician is amazed that I was not worried about preterm labor/birth with this pregnancy - but, the more I have seen in medicine, as it pertains to pregnancy, is that there is very little a doctor can do to keep you pregnant. My faith just lies in knowing that God knows what will happen & He will protect me & the little being inside. They are miracles that we are given the precious blessing of having. Being anxious would have ONLY made this pregnancy worse for me!

You'll be in my prayers!!! And, I don't think I've told my dad that you're expecting yet...I'll have to do that!

I'm so glad to hear that everything is going all right - you and Nugget will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Ultrasounds are so much fun, and I hope that you can find out the sex. Caitlin was not cooperative, but I suppose that was my first lesson that I can't control everything in motherhood. :P

The second trimester is definitely a lot more fun, once the belly bump emerges. Also, if you haven't seen it already, the Bella Band (http://www.ingridandisabel.com/) was a lifesaver for me. You can still wear your current pants, just unbuttoned. It takes a while before the maternity clothes fit well...and soon enough those will be tight around the tummy! I really liked Gap maternity and found that they have great sales.

Keep posting on your blog - I am so excited for both of you!
